The Cantrol Los Angeles Abrasion Machine is a precision-built testing instrument designed to determine the resistance of mineral aggregates to abrasion, impact, and grinding. This standard test measures the degradation of aggregates of a specified grading when subjected to a combination of mechanical stresses inside a rotating steel drum with 12 hardened-steel balls.

Engineered for reliability and accuracy, the unit features a rolled, welded steel drum with an internal diameter of 711 mm (28 in.) and internal length of 508 mm (20 in.). The drum rotates smoothly at a controlled speed of 31–33 rpm, simulating real-world wear conditions for construction aggregates.

A durable flanged ball-bearing assembly with dust seals and grease filling ensures quiet, maintenance-free operation. The integrated electronic control panel includes a digital preset counter that automatically stops the machine once the test cycle is complete.

The system is housed in a powder-coated steel cabinet that effectively reduces noise levels during operation, enhancing laboratory comfort and safety. Each machine is supplied with a steel collection tray, while the set of 12 hardened steel ball charges is available separately.
